In this chapter, children will be able to compare two pictures to see how many of a particular kind in each of them. Can they decide which one has the more?
This comparing game activity chapter is a bit different from usual, where each question comes with two pictures containing objects to compare instead of simply two numbers. In this chapter, students will learn to count how many of a particular object in each picture. There are also “greater than”, “less than” and “equal” signs provided. Students are tasked with comparing the number of anything shown in two pictures using these signs. If needed, students can repeat this activity chapter to better get the hang of it.
This game can be used with the following in class activities:
41 Pocketbook Counting (Nursery 1, Week 4 & 5) Gather two easy-to-open pocketbooks. Put one little toy in the first, two into the next. Let the children play with the pocketbooks in their own way. As they play, help them see how many toys are in each. Count the toys. See if your children can tell which pocketbook has one toy and which has many. Have extra toys nearby so that the children can have the same number of toys to carry around, if they wish.
More or Less (Kindergarten 2, Week 7 & 8) Place two hula hoops or make two big circles of tape on the floor. Encourage children to join the game. On the count of three, ask them to choose hop on one of the circles. By the time everybody has found their place, count the children in each circle. Challenge them to identify which circle has more children. When they understand the concept, introduce them the signs of more or less (<, >)
233 Symbol of More or Less (Kindergarten 2, Week 7 & 8) Prepare mats on the floor, form two big mats separately. Prepare flashcards of <, >, and = for more, less and equal respectively. Play the music, ask children to dance. Once the music stopped, they have to be on the 2 big mats. Ask children which mat have more, less or equal amount of children. You can extend the activity by record each session on the paper.
