Compare Family Members and Friends by Age

Students compare the age of themselves, family members, and friends. This game is ideal for students, ages 5 and up.

The purpose of this game is to teach the concept of age, where students can compare their age to others. Each student is given a few photographed pictures of family members, friends, and him/her. Each picture should have a written description to make it easier for students to understand. On the first level, the students are required to compare between their ages. The next two levels have the students compare the age between other people.

In this chapter, the teacher can teach students how to introduce themselves. Furthermore, they can take it further by introducing other people. Vocabulary to compare age is also introduced. They are “older than” and ”younger than”.

This game can be used with the following in class activities:

35 Family Puppets. Nursery 1, Term 1, Week 4 & 5
Ready made toys or teacher made puppets representing a variety of family members. Use a variety of family member puppets as you talk with children about families.
Match puppets with individual children’s real family members.
You can use flashcards as additional props to introduce the theme or ask them to bring their family photos for tomorrow activity.

Gather on the floor mat and play the music. Pass the ball around starting with the child beside the teacher.
When the music stops, the child who is holding the ball should introduce her/him using the simple sentences that are introduced to them. Encourage children to use the following sentences as they introduce themselves.
